Did you say you have a charter coming up? How exciting! At Boat Party Hire, we like to ensure everything will run as smoothly as possible so you can get the most out of your charter. So here are a few key things you can do to arrive prepared for your cruise.
First and foremost, double-check that you and your guests have the correct wharf time and location for your departure. It’s always best to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled charter time to allow for traffic, finding parking, finding the correct wharf, and foot traffic on the wharf so you can casually arrive without panicking that you’ll miss the boat. Boats have a limited time at the wharf booking, so you must encourage guests to arrive early to avoid missing the boat. You want to have a relaxing time from start to finish.
If your charter is BYO, sufficient food is required to satisfy Responsible Service of Alcohol requirements. You should bring some sausages and salad for a BBQ, or pizzas are another tremendous and fuss-free option. Otherwise, the boat can cater to you, so you don’t have to. If you are also bringing your drinks, remember to consider that the leftovers must be taken off with you. So if you’re heading out afterward, you may not want to carry too much once you disembark. Check with your event coordinator if you are required to BYO ice. Luckily there is a bottle shop conveniently located on Lime Street near King Street Wharf which makes this task very easy.
The board staff will help prepare your food and serve your drinks. They will even cook the BBQ for you. Remember that the BBQs on boats are usually small, so it’s best to bring thin sausages and meats that cook quickly. We don’t want your guests waiting too long for their meal now, do we? Your plates, cups, utensils, napkins and platter trays will be provided. How handy is that!
If you plan to swim, guests must bring their towels and swimmers. This may seem obvious, but boats like to stay dry inside, so guests need to be able to change into dry clothing (not sit in wet underwear) and dry off thoroughly before making their way back into the main section of the boat. This will ensure the boat is dry and comfortable for all guests onboard and prevent any falls and slippages due to excess water on the floor.
Footwear is another crucial thing guests should be made aware of before turning up to your charter. Most boats require white sole shoes (sneakers) or bare feet. Stiletto heels will not be allowed due to potential damage to the boat (you don’t want to lose your security bond), and we don’t want anyone spraining their ankle. While the boats move at slow speeds, they can sometimes rock unexpectedly, and it’s best if your feet are stable on the boat and not in high heel shoes (sorry, ladies!).
It is essential to disclose the full details of your event to your coordinator so they can have the boat stocked and crewed appropriately for your guests on the day. You must stay within the guest numbers disclosed at the time of booking. Boats have a limited number of passengers allowed on board for safety reasons, which cannot be exceeded due to safety regulations.
One of the best ways to get the most out of your charter is to respect the boat, especially the staff. The crew will ensure everyone has a great day provided everyone behaves appropriately. Guests should remain well hydrated and avoid alcohol consumption before the cruise. Consider that the same rules apply to a boat as to any other land venue, pub or club. Proof of identity may be requested, and under 18s will not be allowed to board without a supervising adult.
Last but not least, start putting together your favourite tunes on a playlist. All boats have a sound system throughout the vessel. What’s a party without music? You could even choose to have a DJ at your event. This would get people up dancing.
With all this in mind, you’re on your way to having the best possible day on the harbour. Bring the good vibes and energy, and the rest will fall into place perfectly.
